INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 23, 2013) — The public is invited to learn more about the Indy Connect studies of the Red, Blue and Green lines by participating in a free Webinar on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.

Anyone with Internet access can participate in the Webinar.  Planners will explain the work to be done on the proposed Red, Blue, and Green transit lines.   Decisions made in 2013 will determine the number and locations of station stops, the mode of transportation (either rail or bus rapid transit), and whether the vehicles will operate in new or existing lanes of city streets.

The lines and their general locations are:

  • The Red Line, which extends north and south (exact street to be determined) through downtown Indianapolis from Carmel to Greenwood;
  • The Blue Line, which runs east and west on or near Washington Street from Cumberland to the Indianapolis International Airport; and
  • The Green Line, which runs between downtown Indianapolis and Noblesville and was previously called the Northeast Corridor.

To register, visit www.indyconnect.org/pages/Stay-Connected/. The Webinar will be recorded and posted on the Indy Connect website after the event.

In late February, public meetings with more opportunities to engage in the planning process will begin. Details will be made available soon at www.indyconnect.org.

When fully implemented, the Indy Connect plan will double the current local bus service and add new rapid transit services throughout the region. It would complement IndyGo’s recently announced Downtown Transit Center, a federally funded project that would serve as a central hub downtown for destinations, boardings and transfers.

Indy Connect is a partnership of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) and IndyGo. A fully implemented Indy Connect plan will connect more people to more places, easier than ever before.
