INDIANAPOLIS—Visitors to this year's Indiana State Fair will get an up-close look at the types of transit that are part of a comprehensive transportation plan for Central Indiana. During "Indy Connect Day," Friday, Aug. 19, State Fair Boulevard will be transformed into the Indy Connect Experience, where guests can immerse themselves in the Indy Connect plan and see how it could change the way they get to work, school, doctor's appointments, or the grocery store.
The Indy Connect display will consist of six experience stations, each focusing on a major mode of transportation included in the plan. On display will be a bus rapid transit (BRT) vehicle from Cleveland, Ohio, a model of a rail car used in many modern transit systems, and a cutting-edge local bus employing hybrid technology. Guests can walk through a panoramic view of a transit station that could one day sit at 38th Street and Fall Creek Parkway and ask questions of various transportation experts.
"The goal of Indy Connect is to help Central Indiana visualize how transit could transform the region’s landscape – from ease of travel to economic development and job growth," said Lori Miser, executive director of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). "The Indy Connect Experience is a unique opportunity to bring these ideas to life, and we're hopeful Indy Connect Day will be an enlightening experience for fairgoers."
The MPO, Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA), and IndyGo—the
organizations behind Indy Connect—will be on hand to answer questions and provide an update on the planning process. Other exhibitors at the fair on Aug. 19 will be IndyCOG, Knozone, Health By Design, and Hoosier Environmental Council.
